We return to Albany with a reading of poetry and prose by Cara Benson, Elizabeth Guthrie, Morgan Sherlock, and Lakota Levandowski.

CHANGE OF LOCATION. We will be meeting at the Korean Veterans Memorial on Madison Ave between Swan St and State Museum.

Cara Benson is the author of (made) (Book*Hug, 2010) a hybrid micro prose/poem collection. Her stories and poems have been published in The New York Times, Boston Review, Best American Poetry, The Brooklyn Rail, Identity Theory, Fence, Hobart, and many other wonderful venues. Her interviews, essays, and reviews at Electric Literature, Bookslut, 3:AM, Full Stop, Entropy, Poetry Society of America, and elsewhere. She has received a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship and the bpNichol Award.

Benson teaches writing workshops with Grub Street and Writing Workshops, and has been a visiting writer at the New York State Writers Institute, Rhode Island School of Design, Evergreen College, Kelly Writers House and more. For eight years she ran a poetry class in a NY State Prison. She lives in the ancestral homelands of the Mohicans and is writing a series about walking in the woods called Dispatches from a Distance. www.carabensonwriter.com

Elizabeth Guthrie is a poet and performer living and practicing in the Hudson Valley, NY after having completed a practice-based PhD in text and performance at the University of East London. She teaches English at the State University of New York and is the founder of Stone Collective, co-editor of Livestock Editions, and curator of the Impossible Reading Series with work appearing in journals including Onedit, Bombay Gin, Emergency Index, Alba Londres, Open Letter, Fact-Simile, and the Chicago Review, as well as in the Archive of the Now. She has a pamphlet, X Portraits through Crater Press, a chapbook, Yellow and Red through Black Lodge Press, a collaborative chapbook Between Here and the Telescopes through Slumgullion Press, and a book entitled Portraits – Captions from Contraband Books along with the forthcoming Portraits – Negatives.

Morgan Sherlock is an undergraduate student studying English and Creative Writing at the University at Albany. Morgan is interning at St. Rocco’s Poetry Collective this semester and is learning much about the world of spoken poetry. After college she plans to attend graduate school, working towards a career in publishing and online media. She is an active writer, having published several poems and a short story to the undergraduate journal, ARCH. Morgan is from Western NY, and is currently working on a vignette poetry collection of her childhood.

Lakota Levandowski is currently at the University of Albany after receiving his associates from SUNY Schenectady. He’s a Junior studying English, history and creative writing. He plans to pursue a creative focus for his masters next semester and takes inspiration from most things and would like to experience and experiment with as many things as possible. Lakota’s goal for the next few years is to continue exploring the realm of poetry in whatever capacity he’s capable of.
